Talking Heading Trump v Canada
Talking President Trump's threats to tariff the foreign film industry, plus a little bit about why I watch & do foreing/overseas media, and why you should too
Normally when I do a media hit I post the clipped segment, when possible. But since my talking head participation on this particular newscast - covering President Trump’s threat to tariff the foreign film industry as part of an entire leadoff block on Trump’s ongoing economic feud with Canada - came at the very beginning of the broadcast. So, a good opportunity to share the entire episode.
If you don’t know, Forum Daily News is the evening national news broadcast for The News Forum network. Having news alternatives to the CBC that reach “must carry” status on Canada tv is a recent development, and I’ve been privileged to get to work with Forum Daily News when they need an American perspective.
Which, with President Trump’s obsession over tariffing and annexing Canada, has been pretty frequent.
Broadly though, if you haven’t been intaking overseas news, just watch and notice how different it is. I highly encourage folks to keep overseas news in your rotation. While BBC and Sky News have been around for a while, other networks like DW from Germany and France24 have full, 24/7 English language networks. The Middle East, Asia, and Africa also have news organizations that are doing international broadcasts in English.
I can tell you from experience when I’ve appeared on platforms like Times Radio (UK) how thoroughly different it is than when I’m working with US media, for good, bad, and indifferent. Expand your horizons, widen your perspectives, and give yourself a fresh viewpoint when you come back to the circus that is American news media.
